Watching Tour of Oman: Jebel Akhdar

Hi all,
Has anyone gone to watch the Tour of Oman on Jebel Akhdar? I'm planning to go this weekend and am looking for tips. Hoping to get a ride in on the mountain before the big guns come through. A few questions I have are below and any other pointers would be great!
-Is the climb doable with a 39x28?
-Seems like the finish is only about 5.5km up the climb. Can a 2WD car be driven up the road to about 1-2km from the finish?
