"To my cycling friends, excuse me for not toeing the start line at the Tour of Switzerland. My legs are fine, but Doctor Corsetti advised me not to start. I had crashed after the finish of the first stage where I finished ninth, and with the lead group. While heading back to the hotel on the bike, I suddenly found myself face-down on the asphalt. It shows, no? A dip in the road made me lose my balance, luckily I was wearing a helmet... please remember, everyone - wear a helmet even if you're heading out to buy the paper! I'll be back at the national championships, guaranteed!"
